Microblog

This is an archive of my Mastodon account, and maybe in the future, noteworthy posts of mine that I might feel like archiving from other webites.

I'm currently manually updating this whenever I update the rest of my site, so posts might take a while to get here. It also currently doesn't have support for links or outgoing images, and it doesn't look very nice. But ain't it neat?

I probably need to make an /about page for my personal site already, but those have always been my weakest point (see my austere bio on here). How the hell am I supposed to describe myself? I do stuff and I have mental illness ❤️

Finally watched Parasite. Now I know my anti-anxiety medication is working! I only had my jaw clenched through half of it!

Great movie, but nightmarish. I've found more and more lately that fiction with class dynamics is always vastly more interesting to me than anything else.

Ever since Reddit went to shit I got really into crossword. It's pretty much my main hobby right now. If I could go off and do word puzzles in a MMO while my partners do PVP I think I could survive in this world

I never imagined myself being one of those people who cares about #Splatoon music beyond "it's pretty neat!" but C-Side brought a whole wave of nostalgia for my days when I was really into Polysics. So now I care a lot actually. Good lird

In my time being too unwell to update my website, I've managed to accumulate 300 more bookmarks I need to sort through and read and to add to my website. At least I'm using my bookmarks again instead of opening things in tabs and forgetting about them.

They invented Linux's confounded "snap" in a facility developed specifically to torture me. They call it snap because that's what I'm about to do

My local library's ebook system has a ton of books I haven't been able to find in the nearby library system. I'm not much of an ebook reader, so I wouldn't have thought of it otherwise. Check it out, if you can!

Today I learned about the "now" page:

https://nownownow.com/about

Basically, in addition to your "about" page, a page listing what you've been up to lately. I would love to see this on more personal sites! I rarely read people's bios as it is - they tell me very little about the person's actual life, they're just how the writer views themself, not their actions.

Here's some articles I managed to find about other people attempting the same:

https://btrem.com/2021/01-microblog-11ty

https://lewiswrites.software/post/microblogging-with-eleventy/

https://archive.hankchizljaw.com/wrote/jamstack-ifttt-and-netlify:-a-power-trio/

Unfortunately, it seems like none of these people who have bothered to write these wonderful articles have actually stuck with their #IndieWeb microblog, and instead went back to Mastodon. So there's very few living examples and I'm even more unsure if this path is worth going down.

Thanks for all the #Storygraph endorsements! I'm using it now and already like it way more than #Goodreads and #Bookwyrm put together.

Whenever I can fix my freaking Nextcloud server I'll leave a reminder to myself to report back on my feelings once the novelty wears off 😝

It makes sense that I should probably be posting my nonsense to my website first and then syndicating, but I, well, don't know how I want to go about doing that - individual pages would be a pain in the ass for my SSG, but long pages could be annoying to read... Does anyone else in the #IndieWeb archive their microblogging?

I tried switching from #Goodreads to #Bookwyrm, because it really does sound like a nice idea, but it felt like a wasteland. Does anyone have long-term (e.g. the novelty has worn off) experience with any Goodreads alternatives?

Should I stick with Bookwyrm and stop being a whiner about it? Should I stick with Goodreads and accept that my soul is Amazon property?

Open to replies from anyone because finding actual critical discussion of these sites is surprisingly hard.

I finally reluctantly set up one of my old monitors as a makeshift TV just for playing Splatoon on. I GUESS it's okay, but it's not the CRT TV I found literally abandoned in the parking lot of my old apartment that I've bonded with like an emotional support animal.

"The Black Guy Dies First" is a must-read if you enjoy or create horror media. I read it in a single sitting, which is almost unprecedented for me.

I'm so committed to my CRT TV since I mainly play games from the 90s, but my partners have somehow managed to get me into video games released this year, and I have to reluctantly admit that it is... not a good experience.

It does kinda make me feel like text in modern video games could afford to be bigger, though 😕
